1985 Uaz 469 Jeep

Russian UAZ 469 field car is one of the most important 4x4 off road vehicles, also one of the most popular army vehicle at cold war. The UAZ-469 was introduced in 1972-73, replacing the earlier GAZ-69. During would war second, German Kubelwagen and willys MB/GPW were among the most famous small size go any where military vehicle, Soviet Union and Japan also developing their small off road vehicle, In 1943 at the height of the war,The Soviet Union started to developing their 4wd off road vehicle to use at Russian terrain, The GAZ-67 (Gorkovski Avtomobilny Zavod)basis on Willys MB, but with more powerful 3.280L side-valve water cooled motor, this vehicle is very strong, the performance may much better than MB/GPW. On the other hand, Japanese build their four wheel drive 2 seat field car call "Kurogane"however the performance was far behind the Kubelwagen, Jeep and GAZ67 a lot. Since mid of 70s this UAZ 469 go any where field car was used in Finland, Croatia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, Laos, Mongolia, North Korea, India, Angola, Cuba, Ethiopia, the former Warsaw Pact Inc East Germany ,Czechoslovakia and Poland at 70's until today.The UAZ-469 was introduced in 1973, it has replaced the earlier GAZ-69. UAZ 469 is reliable, capable, simple, easy maintenance. It uses extremely inexpensive spare parts allow the car to last much longer than more expensive and complicated western 4x4s. Even the most complicated and costly repairs can be done by the owner themselves. American Jeep and Land Rover spare parts are much expensive that can not be compared . The vehicle has the uncomplicated design, the body is set to the ladder frame. There are different version with tilt top and hard top. You can set various machine guns in the back of a military version of the machine. The basis of the suspension are longitudinal springs and dampers. On the some military models with reduction gear at each wheel(downshift in the wheel hubs).To make it with a distance of 300mm from ground clearance. Established a dry-plate clutch and 4-speed gearbox, part time 4x4 system, The distribution of torque between the front and rear axles provides continuous two-speed transfer case, for STD model, the Ground clearance is also got 220mm. Vehicle uses 15 inch steel wheel. This vehicle contains different models: command vehicle, mobile station, mobile medical vehicle, reconnaissance vehicle, carrier of ammunition. UAZ-469 carries 7 passengers and 100 kg of luggage or two passengers and 600 kg. The car can tow a trailer weighing up to 850 kg. This vehicle got very good off road performance.

In the 1972, the first "469" left the assembly line. The engine of the "469" is a 2500 cc. OHV, with side camshaft, 72 hp; other engines were mounted for export Western market , as the Peugeot-Citroen 2500 TD and, in a later period of time , the 2.1 12V TD taken from the Citroen "XM", also Fiat 2.0 DOHC or the Italian VM with the same displacement. The UAZ "469" has a Chinese "cousin" BJ 212, different in the front grill, but very similar in the mechanical part, and produced by the Beijing Jeep, but not the same quality and performance.( At early 90s, We got a new 4 speed Military BJ212,it is also a very easy repair 4x4, however the vehicle leak performance at rough terrain, transfer case not strong, body very easy rust.)

Furthermore, at the late 90s, after the fall of the Soviet Union saw a significant decline of quality in the assembly of UAZ vehicles as the company have financial difficulty, struggled to maintain the company. They could not afford to pay the expenses ,and the high quality metal.  

Other problems have been occured with the modernization of the vehicle, as many of the other extra parts have been of poor quality. To get through these problems, and return the reliability and dependability of UAZ vehicles to their former standards, the Soviet UAZ Company has recently introduced a new quality control system which has reduced the number of UAZ vehicles with defects arriving in showrooms around the world.

The one we got is EX-Russian em-bassy at India 1985 made RHD UAZ 469, This verhicle is imported by Maurice in 2005. We believe this is the only one of the Russian Field car/jeep in Hong Kong.

In 2018, our company has donated a rare Russian Jeep to Hong Kong Pro-Art Training and Development Centre for educational purposes
