1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Samba 23 window bus
Type 2 was worlds first for control car base on Volkswagen Type 1 beetle ,also known as Transporter,Samba ,Kombi or microbus.Type 2 was the second model of Volkswagen after WW2.As one of the forerunners of the modern step van and Limousine .
In 1946 a Dutch merchant Ben Pon visited Wolfsburg intending to a purchase other models,where he saw an improvised parts mover and thought of building a closed-end transporter.He first sketched the forward control , driver seat in front of the parts mover and thought of building a close-end transporter.He first sketched the Van on a notebook, proposing an oval front body like a diesel locomotive,the flat 4 air cooled engine any 4 speed gear box put at rear,four wheel indenpendent suspension from beetle,rear suspension trailing arms got a gear box like WW 2 German Army off road vehicle VW82/82e , portal axle with hub reduction gear nd more high ground clearance for more torque for this small van to carrier goods and use at wild for Safari.
Between 1950-1967 west German built a lot of 2 door pick up, 3 door panel van,Camper,4 door bus, 5 door bus, 23 window Samba Bus with big sun roof.1951-1975 Brazil built type 2 Van for South American market.Today a nice condition 23 window T1 Samba cost between USD100000-250000.
